From Sled Lake to Stark Lake – Northwest Territories, Canada

28th July – Snowdrift River

SNOWDRIFT!

We got up early, and did a 12 hour day of hard work. Five portages, but only the first was trough rough terrain. Though a large musk ox decided he would stand in the middle of our return path on the third portage, the day went very well. A strong focus on eating before we got exhausted provided us with lots of energy, and we made camp on a sandy island in the confluence of Eileen and Snowdrift.

It’s hard to describe the great feeling we had, when finally this iconic river appeared through the trees. We had read so much about it. Studied it on maps and visioned it in our minds. Finally days of just floating down this beautiful river was awaiting.
